Dr. Wollin is a provider of the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP). Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, the SSP is an auditory intervention involving a total of 5 hours of listening, designed to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity while enhancing social engagement and resilience. Based on Dr. Porges' Polyvagal Theory, by calming the physiological and emotional state, the door is opened for improved communication and more successful therapy.

The SSP is a research-based therapy which aims to improve the following issues:
- Social and emotional difficulties
- Auditory sensitivities
- Anxiety and trauma-related challenges
- Inattention that is linked to anxiety
- Stressors that impact social engagement

The book Integrative Parenting: Strategies for Raising Children Affected by Attachment Trauma is recommended reading for all adoptive parents and parents of children with developmental trauma who are commencing or in ongoing therapy with me.

Pre-Adoption Consultations/Adoption Records Review
I provide Pre-Adoption Consultations to prospective adoptive parents to explore their questions, decision-making process, and any couple or family dynamics related to adoption, as well as their capacity and readiness as parents or as a family to pursue adoption.

I also provides an Adoption Records Review process to help families assess their capacity to be a family for a child with a specific background of trauma, neglect or prenatal exposure to drugs or alcohol. This process involves a review of information and documentation related to the matched child and meeting with adoptive parents to discuss their concerns and provide information and resources to assist them in their decision. I also reviews adoption records and developmental histories of children who are already adopted, for the purposes of identifying risk factors and aiding in accurate diagnosis.

Attachment Trauma/FASD
I work with adoptive and foster families to assist them in parenting children who have had difficult beginnings in life. I also work with families where there has been prenatal exposure to alcohol or drugs (or suspicions/possibility of exposure), and provides support for diagnosis and management of Fetal/Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).

When working with children and their families, especially traumatized children or adoptive or foster families, I follow the Integrative Attachment Trauma Protocol for Children (IATP-C) developed by Debra Wesselmann and colleagues from the Attachment and Trauma Center of Nebraska. I am a Certified IATP-C Clinician, and the IATP-C model is a combination of EMDR therapy and family therapy.

Safety & Stabilization

Reprocessing & Release

Integration & Growth

We begin by establishing a secure, confidential space where you can feel grounded. This phase focuses on building resources and coping strategies to manage distress effectively.

Once stable, we gently engage with the traumatic memories and attachment wounds using somatic modalities. This allows for deep processing and the release of stored emotional pain.

The final phase involves integrating new insights and emotional freedom into your daily life. We focus on strengthening your core Self and fostering lasting resilience and well-being.
